The UWI Open Campus Selects its 2012 Valedictorian for Graduation in St. Kitts

    The UWI Open Campus, St. Kitts & Nevis – Born on October 23, 1982, in St. Lucia, Krissa Rochelle Dalya Johnny attended the all- girls’ St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School. While at St. Joseph’s, Krissa excelled academically, earning eight CXC-CSEC subjects, capped with an award for her excellent results in Mathematics. After completing high school, Krissa continued her studies at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College where she successfully completed Advanced-Level subjects in Mathematics, Physics and Geography.
     

     

    In 2001, Krissa returned to the St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School where she was employed for two years as a Laboratory Technician.  It was her experience and love for teaching that emboldened her to apply for a full-time teaching position in Mathematics and Integrated Science at the same institution the following year.  As her love for teaching grew, she enrolled with the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College to pursue an Associate Degree in Secondary Teacher Education, where she majored in Mathematics and Science, in the Division of Teacher Education and Educational Administration. 

     

    On completing her studies, she was given an award for Best Overall Achievement.  She returned to the St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School and taught Mathematics and Physics for the next five years.

     

    In  2009,  Krissa  enrolled  with  the  UWI  Open  Campus  to  read  for  the  online  Bachelor  of Education Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education.  In addition to pursuing the degree at the UWI Open Campus, Krissa was ably employed at the St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School.

     

    There, she was very active involved in intramural activities, and undertook a variety of managerial roles including becoming the Teacher-in-Charge and Assistant Teacher-in-Charge of the Photography Club, House Mistress of the St. Teresa’s House, Class Mistress and Assistant Class Mistress and Head of the Science Department.  She is currently employed at the Choiseul Secondary School as a Mathematics teacher.

     

    As a single parent, Krissa is an active participant in the life of her daughter, Sydney Assisi Norah Johnny who is her source of joy and inspiration.   In addition to her passion for teaching Mathematics and teaching and learning, she also enjoys and finds solace in taking long walks, listening to music, reading and football.

     

    Krissa has satisfied the requirements for the award of the Bachelor of Education Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education with First Class Honours.

     

    We are proud that Krissa chose the UWI Open Campus to fulfill her dream and salute her academic accomplishments thus far.
