Basseterre, St. Kitts – October 2nd, 2012 - In another pioneering move, telecommunications provider LIME, today announced that St. Kitts and Nevis will achieve 4G technology before the end of this year, becoming the first to offer 4G voice and data technologies in the Federation.
In the initial phase, a number of cell sites in the commercial centers and highly populated areas in St. Kitts and Nevis will be upgraded to 4G. These sites will cover the Basseterre, Cayon and Sandy Point areas in St. Kitts and Charlestown and Gingerland areas in Nevis.
For LIME Customers, this means that people with 4G enabled devices in and around these areas will be able to access super-fast data transmission speeds. Such devices include the Samsung Galaxy SIII, BlackBerry Bold 9900, the Apple iPhone 4S and the Huawei Mi-fi E586, all of which are available at LIME’s retail stores in Basseterre and Charlestown.
General Manager David Lake says, “We are proud to be the first to bring 4G voice and data to St. Kitts and Nevis. This move will propel our Federation into the realm of a handful of countries around the world with this technology standard. It also speaks to the legacy of LIME as the telecomm leader in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
According to Lake, the ground work has already begun and things have been progressing smoothly.
4G networks give customers higher data speeds compared to EDGE and 3G. It will allow faster connections, quicker browsing and file downloads as well as super-fast access to apps. It will enhance the mobile lifestyle and experience that people require today.
LIME already offers 4G in Barbados, Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands as well as key commercial districts in Jamaica. St. Kitts and Nevis will be the first country in the OECS to get this advanced mobile technology.
