Students escape fiery school bus accident

~~Adz:Left~~ St. Croix, USVI – STUDENTS from Alfredo Andrews Elementary and John H. Woodson Jr. High Schools managed to escape serious injury when their school bus overturned and caught fire in the La Vallee area on Friday afternoon, September 5.

According to St. Croix District Superintendent Gary Molloy, approximately 12 students were travelling in the bus when the driver lost control and the vehicle reportedly turned over twice before catching fire.

The students reportedly broke through the bus windows before the fire started and assisted each other to safety. As a precautionary measure, the students and driver were taken to Luis Hospital. No major injuries were reported and the students were treated for minor scrapes and bruises and released.

A spokesperson for the VI police department later stated that the driver had lost control of the vehicle while going down a hill, adding that the Traffic Investigation Bureau was investigating to determine the cause of the accident.

Police officials expected preliminary reports from the Traffic Investigation Bureau to be handed in this past weekend but noted that conclusive results from the investigation were not likely to be completed for a few weeks.
