Bronte Welsh students shower teachers with appreciation

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TEACHERS across the island are being shown some extra love and appreciation today (Oct. 2) from their students and the students’ parents, as part of the observance of Teachers’ Appreciation Day.

And at the Bronte Welsh Primary School, the teachers were more than pleasantly surprised when parent members of the school’s Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) also showed their appreciation to them for the investment they made in the lives of their young ones.

The educators – during the morning assembly – were guests at a special ceremony where the extent of the appreciation of their students was expressed.

SKNVibes understands that when the teachers arrived to work, they were greeted with trinkets of gratitude which were presented to them by members of the student body.

Though few, the morning’s activities were significant with the prayer and words of gratitude being offered by Grade Four student Keona Caines and a thought-provoking presentation by Grade Six student Shenique Morton, who eloquently captured the mode of the student body through her use of each letter in the word ‘thanks’.

As a tangible expression of their gratefulness, the teachers were also presented bottles of wine.

The showers of thanks did not end there as the educators were presented with certificates of appreciation by the PTA’s Public Relations Officer, Verlyn Warner.

Underscoring the importance of honouring teachers, Vice President Hanley explained that teachers are themselves human beings and do tend to get weary and discouraged and would no doubt be inspired just by the kind words of their students.

Acts of appreciations – she said – should be performed all year round.

“It is very important because teachers are with students for most of the day. Teaching is difficult and teachers are human beings too, and they need encouragement. They get discouraged from time and time and even when it is not Teachers’ Appreciation Day, students, go and show your teacher how much you love and appreciate them.

“Think of them as your mother or your father and honour them. Sometimes they might be a little bit down and if you realise that, approach your teacher and find out if they are okay. You would be surprised to know that your concern would encourage them.”

The head of the PTA is Maritza Dias and although she was unable to attend the appreciation ceremony, SKNVibes understands that she was very much a part of the planning process.
