By: BVI, Press Release

Tortola, British Virgin Islands, October 3, 2012 – The BVI was the focal point of the 2012 Travel & Leisure Global Bazaar, which offered rhythmic music and tantalising foods to over 5,000 persons from around the world.

The BVI Tourist Board in partnership with Travel & Leisure magazine created a unique avenue where persons were given the opportunity to not only read about the BVI, but to experience it. The Travel & Leisure Global Bazaar took place from September 28-30 at the Lexington Armory in New York City.

Many indulged in the variety of foods offered by our BVI culinary chefs Kenneth Molyneaux and Imran Ashton, and the vibrant cocktail creations made by mixologist Elton Sprauve, whilst swaying to the sounds of Quito & The Edge.

Celebrity chefs José Andrés, Scott Conant, Masaharu Morimoto, Jose Garces, Johnny Luzzini, Michael White, Tim Love, Floyd Cardoz and others also made food presentations at the BVI Tourist Board’s booth.

“The event was a top of the line promotion done by the BVI Tourist Board. The experience was unbelievable and it will be etched in my memory forever. I think this was an effective promotion to get tourists to come and visit the BVI,” said Quito Rhymer, Lead Singer of Quito & The Edge.

BVI Tourist Board Takes Centre Stage at New York’s Travel + Leisure Global Bazaar With added enthusiasm Chef Imran Ashton commented, “The event was a great mixture of culture and food. The energy was high and the
attendees were intrigued by our distinctive approach to food, music and drink. The BVI team was able to raise awareness of the destination through our very interactive booth. The attendees asked us many questions about our food, culture and our cooking style,” he said.

The Global Bazaar marks the beginning of a busy Fall season for the BVI Tourist Board North American offices. Throughout the next three months they will participate in events such as, the Annapolis Sailboat Show, American Express Platinum Agents Presentation Seminar, International Tourism and Travel Show, CTO Caribbean Week-Toronto, DEMA 2012, and Ski & Sun Getaway Travel Show.

“New York City is the primary market area in North America for the BVI and the Travel & Leisure Global Bazaar was an ideal kickoff promotional opportunity for the destination's Fall promotions. The Bazaar represents the leading edge of the trend in consumer promotion to create “experiential” settings for destinations to build their brand awareness and to sell their product. We are particularly pleased to partner with Travel & Leisure Magazine as we seek to build awareness of our tourism brand in this most critical of markets.

This at a time when travel consumers turn their attention to the busy winter travel season just ahead”, said Russell Harrigan, Chairman of the BVI Tourist Board. The Travel & Leisure Global Bazaar is where the most exciting destinations, brands, chefs, artists, musicians and artisans meet. The first Global Bazaar was held in 2011 and drew 5,000 guests. The event includes live music and performances from around the world; global food, wine and spirits; and shopping for authentic wares.
