BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – COMMUNICATION issued by the St. Kitts-Nevis Information Service (SKNIS) indicates that Raphael Archibald has been appointed Supervisor of Elections for St. Christopher and Nevis.
The correspondence – received by this media house at approximately 3:15 p.m. - took the form of an email which read, “Please see attached and find enclosed, a memo issued by the Office of the Governor-General of St. Christopher and Nevis concerning the Appointment of the new Supervisor of Elections”.
The attached document explained that the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, having consulted with the appropriate individuals, appointed Archibald to the post.
"It is notified for general information that His Excellency the Governor-General, after consultation with the Right Honourable Prime Minister, the Honourable Premier and the Honourable Leader of the Opposition has in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 34(2) of the Constitution of St. Christopher and Nevis, appointed Mr. Raphael A. Archibald, MBE to exercise the functions of the office of Supervisor of Elections with effect from 2nd October, 2012.”
His appointment comes approximately one month after the previous holder of that post resigned.
Archibald replaces Pastor Leroy Benjamin who vacated the office on August 31, 2012, four days after the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court ruled that he – along with one of this officers – failed to execute his duties in accordance with the law, leading up to and during the conduct of the 2011 elections in Nevis.
