LIME to bring 4G to St. Kitts and Nevis

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -TELECOMMUNICATIONS giant, LIME, is on another pioneering move, having announced on Tuesday (Oct. 2) their intention to bring 4G network to the St. Kitts and Nevis customers before the end of this year.

The telecommunications service provider will be the first to offer 4G voice and data technologies in the Federation.

This 4G network will give LIME customers higher data speeds when compared to EDGE and 3G.

It will provide faster connections, rapid browsing and file downloads as well as super-fast access to apps. It will enhance the mobile lifestyle and experience that consumers require today.

What does this mean for LIME customers?

This means that those consumers with 4G enabled mobile devices will be able to access super-fast data transmission speeds including devices such as the Samsung Galaxy SIII, BlackBerry Bold 9900, the Apple iPhone 4S and the Huawei Mi-fi E586, all of which are available at LIME’s retail stores in Basseterre and Charlestown.

The initial phase has already begun with a number of cell sites in the commercial and highly populated areas in the Federation being upgraded to 4G.

These sites will cover the Basseterre, Cayon and Sandy Point areas in St. Kitts and the Charlestown and Gingerland areas in Nevis.

LIME's General Manager, David Lake, said that a move in this direction speaks to the legacy of LIME and will also raise the technology standard of the Federation.

“We are proud to be the first to bring 4G voice and data to St. Kitts and Nevis. This move will propel our Federation into the realm of a handful of countries around the world with this technology standard. It also speaks to the legacy of LIME as the telecom leader in St. Kitts and Nevis,” he said.

Lake further stated that the ground work has already begun and things have been progressing smoothly.

LIME already offers 4G in Barbados, Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands as well as key commercial districts in Jamaica, and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis will be the first country in the OECS to get this advanced mobile technology.
