BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TRAFFIC cases not heard last month were traversed and trial dates have been set for October 2012, however, 11 have been disposed of with the offenders pleading guilty to committing the infractions of which they were accused.
The offences range from exceeding the speed limit to driving under the influence (DUI) and presiding magistrate Mrs. Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe handed down punishment as she saw fit.
Kurit Bacchus of Lodge Village was charged with driving without due care and attention and DUI; offences which were committed on September 18, 2012.
Having pleaded guilty before the court, he was fined $200 and $1 000 respectively, to be paid forthwith or in default a custodial sentence would be imposed. He was also disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for one month.
Bacchus also confessed to failing to give a specimen of blood to the police and was fined $250 to have been paid forthwith.
Shadwell’s Inshan Mohammed also conferred to an April 9, 2012 DUI offence and was fined $1 000 to be paid forthwith or serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison. Additionally, he was disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for one month.
Bartholomew Davis of Molyneaux – for the offence of driving without due care and attention – was fined $200 to be paid forthwith. The offence was committed on July 14, 2012.
For exceeding the speed limit, Michael Duggins of St. Peters was fined $250 to be paid forthwith or in default serve one month in prison.
Two $500-fines were to have been paid by Sundar Suresh of West Street, Newtown for June 30, 2012 offences of driving without insurance and driving while disqualified from holding a driver’s licence.
Both Anthony Evelyn of Bird Rock and Diane Fleming of Frigate Bay pleaded guilty to driving while in use of a cellular phone. Each was fined $250 to have been paid forthwith or face custodial sentencing.
For driving without insurance and driving when not the holder of a valid driver’s licence, Azim Khan of Dorset was fined $300 and $600 respectively. The offences were committed on September 29, 2012.
A $500-fine was paid by Lionel Stevens of Sandy Point having committed and confessed to an August 2, 2012 incident of driving without insurance.
Leighton Ephraim of Fiennes Avenue was fined $250 for a March 20, 2012 offence of driving without the appropriate headgear.
New Road’s Timothy Francis – for committing a May 7, 2012 offence of driving without a driver’s licence – was fined $250 which was to have been paid forthwith. Had he failed to pay the fine, he would have been made to endure a one-month stint at Her Majesty’s Prison.
