BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - "I CANNOT BELIEVE IT" is all Steadroy "Chalkie" Scott said Thursday (Oct. 4) after he was handed an 11-1 guilty verdict for wounding with intent and unlawful wounding following his very short trial.

Scott was charged with one count each of unlawful wounding and wounding with intent of Kareem Richards which was committed on December 21, 2011 in Basseterre.

His trial began on Wednesday (Oct. 3) with Dennis Merchant leading the prosecution team while Scott stood unrepresented.

The prosecution called five witnesses to help prove their case that at about 9:00 p.m. on the said date, Scott seriously wounded Richards with a knife on the Bay Road in the vicinity of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Following the incident Richards had to travel to the twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to remove a sharp object which was part of the weapon that was broken and remained in Richards’ body when he was stabbed.

After the prosecution rested its case, Scott took the stand claiming he was innocent of the charges laid against him.

The now convicted Scott faces a possibility of 25 years imprisonment.
