Six fined EC$5 900 at Magistrate’s Courts

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SIX individuals were convicted and fined a total of EC$5 900 and one man was convicted and cautioned by magistrates at the Basseterre (District ‘A’) and Charlestown Magistrate’s Courts for offences ranging from assault to driving without insurance.

     

    At the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court, Derrick Hendrickson of Pond’s Estate appeared before Her Worship Janine Harris on Monday (Oct. 1) charged with threatening language, committed on January 28, 2012.

     

    He was convicted and fined EC$1 500, which had to be paid forthwith or serve a one-month prison term.

     

    Delroy Claxton of Irishtown, Bay Road also appeared before the same magistrate on the said day and was convicted for the offences of assault and threatening Language, which were committed on May 8, 2012 at Lower Prickly Pear Alley.
     
    Her Worship imposed a fine of EC$400 for the assault charge and EC$500 for threatening language. Both fines are to be paid within one month and, if in default, Claxton will have to serve a two-month custodial sentence at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    On sister isles Nevis, Keron Michael of Saddlers, St. Kitts; Javed Matthew of Christ Church, St. Kitts; Kelvin Bartlette of Craddock Road, Nevis; Leon Gumbs of Morning Star, Nevis appeared before Her Worship Jasmine Clarke at the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court in Nevis on Monday (Oct. 1) and were convicted and fined a total of EC$3 500.
    A fifth person, Melvin Matthew of Charlestown, Nevis, was convicted but cautioned for driving without due care and attention; an offence he committed at Cedar Tree on July 3, 2012.

     

    Michael and Javed Matthew were charged with possession of cannabis; an offence they committed in Charlestown on September 29, 2012. The former was fined EC$1 000 to be paid in three months or spend an equal amount of time in prison with hard labour; while the latter was fined EC$1 500 to be paid in six months. If in default, Matthew will have to serve a six-month prison term also with hard labour.

     

    Bartlette, for a July 3, 2012 offence of driving without due care and attention in Prospect, was fined $500 to be paid in three months or serve a three-month imprisonment with hard labour.

     

    And Gumbs was convicted for driving without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle and not obtaining the relevant licence, which were committed in Pinneys on July 10, 2012.

     

    For the first offence, he was fined $500 to be paid in one month or one month imprisonment with hard labour and cautioned for the other offences.
