Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 09, 2012 (SKNIS): Several older persons in Constituency #7 were delighted when Honourable Timothy Harris, Parliamentary Representative for the area along with representatives from the Ministry of Social Development paid them a personal visit this week.
As customary, during the Month of Older Persons, which takes place every October, Ministers of Government of St. Kitts and Nevis make the time to go to the homes of the oldest residents in their constituencies.
Minister Harris was first on this year’s schedule and he visited Alfred Herbert who is the oldest person in Belle Vue at 95 years of age.
“Most importantly we have come to remind him that the country continues to value his work in the past, his contribution, and all that he has done throughout his life to add value and worth to the country of St. Kitts and Nevis,” Minister Harris noted. “I recall his activity, his work, in the sugar industry and recall him being part of our folklore groups for many years at Carnival and Christmastime. Mr. Herbert would be among those people who would come to the community of Tabernacle adding much fun and laughter to our lives.”
Constituency #7 stretches from Belle Vue to Mansions and the Minister responsible for the area paused to reflect on a wise saying of another senior.
“I remember one elderly lady said to us, those who live the longest see the most, and sometimes you just end up seeing the same thing over and over again,” Minister Harris remarked. That is why the experiences of the elderly folks and their wisdom can’t be matched elsewhere.”
Minister Harris and the Social Services entourage also visited Lillian Hill of Tabernacle who is 102 years old, Kathleen Browne of Mansions who is 86 and Neville Hanley of Christ Church who is 91 years of age.
