BRADES, Montserrat, October 8th, 2012 – The Rotaract Club of Montserrat celebrated 25 years of active service to the community with a Charter Anniversary Dinner  on the 29th of September 2012.

The club came into being on 5th September 1987 and commemorated the milestone with government officials and former members of the Rotaract. Good Life Night Club was the venue for the evening focused on the theme “Milestones: Celebrating 25 years of service.”

The night included a feature address by Ms. Dorothea Hazel, epidemiologist with the Government of Montserrat and a founding member of Rotaract. Hazel was also the only District Rotaract Representative to have ever served from Montserrat. In her speech she reminisced on fond memories and the opportunities which the club provided for her and reminded members that the club is not a “social” club but a “service” club.

Also in attendance were other founding members who were honoured along with businesses who have supported the club over the years. Founding members such as LIME Manager Joseph Cassell, Director of Regional Affairs & Trade Claude Hogan, Entrepreneur Norman Cassell, Patricia Farrell and Peter White were present to accept their award.

The current Rotaract President Lyandra Hobson in her remarks encouraged all members and future ones to be a living example of the motto “Service above Self”. A specially prepared PowerPoint presentation was shown during the dinner, which included pictures and news articles of Rotaractors and their activities over the years.

“Building Bridges to One Community” is the club’s theme for 2012-2013.  Some of the initiatives on this year’s programme tie into the district theme “Service through Passion, Sustainability through training.” These include promoting a cleaner environment, giving back to the community, road safety projects, and helping others in need. A peace gathering is one of the major activities on the agenda to support the global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.

The club also plans to facilitate training sessions to continue the growth and education in human relations and personal development of its members.
