Law breakers fined EC$14 650; McKnight woman charged with larceny

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NINE individuals, charged with offences ranging from cocaine possession to driving without insurance, were convicted and fined a total of EC$14 650, while a Basseterre woman will soon face the court to answer a larceny charge.

     

    A communiqué from the Police Public Relations Office states that Sandrine Duncan, a.k.a. Method, of Upper Fiennes Avenue, McKnight was charged with the offence of larceny, allegedly committed between October 6-7, 2012; while Bevon Swanston of Government Road, Charlestown, Nevis was charged with possession of cocaine. He allegedly committed the offence on Tuesday (Oct. 9).

     

    At the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court, the communiqué stated that Steadman Adams of Buckley’s and Alex Wattley of East Park Range appeared before Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe on Tuesday (Oct. 9) and were convicted and fined for the offences of which they were charged.

     

    Adams was convicted for a June 10, 2012 offence of cannabis possession and fined EC$850 which has to be paid by tomorrow (Oct. 12) or in default serve a one-month sentence at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Wattley was convicted on the charges of battery, threatening language and insulting language; offences he committed on June 16, 2012. He was however fined EC$1 000 on the battery charge and cautioned on the other two. The fine has to be paid within six weeks or he, too, will be imprisoned for one month.

     

    On sister isle Nevis, a number of persons had appeared before her Worship Jasmine Clarke on Tuesday (Oct. 9) at the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court to answer to their charges.

     

    Esan Thomas of Bath Village was found guilty of larceny, which he committed at Hamilton Estate on July 16, 2012. He was convicted and fined EC$5 000, which is to be paid within six months and, if in default, will have to serve a two-year jail term.

     

    Chris Reddie, also of Bath Village, was convicted and fined EC$500 for possession of cannabis; an offence he committed on Wednesday (Oct. 3). The fine has to be paid in three months, or in default he will be confined in prison for one month with hard labour.

     

    Alex Thompson of Brown Hill, who was also convicted for possession of cannabis found on his person on Friday (Oct. 5), was fined EC$800 which is to be paid in three months. If in default, he too will have to serve one month imprisonment with hard labour.

     

    And in another illegal drug case, Reese Williams of Lodge Village was convicted for possession with intent to supply and fined EC$3 000. This is to be paid in six months or he will be incarcerated at Her Majesty’s Prison for a period of no less than 12 months.

     

    Also, at the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court, three persons were convicted and fined for traffic offences committed in September 2012.

     

    Richard Liburd of Brown Hill was convicted for driving without insurance, not being the holder of a valid and unexpired driver’s licence, not obtaining the relevant licence, and driving a vehicle when not registered.

     

    These offences were committed on Friday, September 14, 2012 and he was fined EC$500 for driving without insurance, to be paid in three month or in default serve one month imprisonment with hard labour.

     

    For not being the holder of a valid and unexpired licence, he was fined EC$500, which is to be paid in two months or, in default, serve one month imprisonment with hard labour; while for driving a vehicle when not registered, he was fined another EC$500. This fine is also to be paid within one month or he will have to serve one month in prison.

     

    Odessa Moore of Low Street was convicted and fined EC$1 000 for driving without insurance and driving when not the holder of valid and unexpired licence; offences she committed on Saturday, September 15, 2012.

     

    The fines, EC$500 for each offence, have to be paid within three months or she will be imprisoned for a similar period.

     

    And Curtis Isaac of Church Ground was convicted for the Saturday, September 15, 2012 offences of permitting another to use a motor vehicle when not covered by insurance, and permitting another to use a motor vehicle when not being the holder of a valid and unexpired driver's licence.

     

    The offences were committed at Cherry Gardens and he was fined EC$500 on each charge. The first one is to be paid within three months or he will have to serve one month in prison, while he has to pay second within a month and, if in default, will also serve a one-month imprisonment but with hard labour.
