    National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving State Service
    on Sunday to mark 25th Anniversary of Independence

     

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 10TH 2008 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will be among nationals of the twin-island Federation attending the National Day of Prayer and State Service to mark the 25th Anniversary of Independence on Sunday 14th September.

     

    The Service, to which the general public is invited, will be held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium is organised and conducted jointly by the St. Kitts Christian Council and the St. Kitts Evangelical Association. It begins at 6:00 P.M.

     

    According to the Order of Service, Pastor Lincoln Connor of the Antioch Baptist Church will deliver the Welcome Remarks. The Call to Worship will come from Rev. Fr. Isaiah Phillip of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church and Vice Chairman of the St. Kitts Christian Council.

     

    Bishop Ron Collins of the New Testament Church of God in Tabernacle will lead the congregation in Praise and Worship and Rev. Fr. Bernard Latus of the Co-Cathedral of St. John-Basseterre will say prayers for the Federation.    ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will read the Old Testament Lesson, Commonwealth Youth Ambassadors Alternate and the 2008 State Scholar, Mr. Azard Gumbs, will read the Epistle and Major Ronald Ellis of the Salvation Army, the Gospel.

     

    Rev. Dr. Haldene Greaves, Co-ordinator of the Seventh Day will lead the congregation in the responsive reading.

     

    The Message will be delivered by Superintendent of the Methodist Churches, the Rev. Dr. Wycherley Gumbs.
    Rev. Joyce Rohan of the Methodist Church will bless the offering which will go to outreach ministries of the St. Kitts Christian Council and the St. Kitts Evangelical Association.

     

    Pastor Leroy Matthew of the People’s Evangelical Center will pray for peace and Archdeacon Valentine Hodge, the Prayer of Affirmation.

     

    During the State Service, renditions will come from the National Mass Choir directed by Mr. Ian Hodge and Dr. Louise Lawrence with Dr. Caroline Lawrence as organist.

     

    St. Kitts and Nevis became an independent nation on September 19th 1983.
