    Basseterre, St. Kitts (April 06, 2005): St. Kitts and Nevis goes online with the OECS Cultural Network on Tuesday, April 12.
    The objectives of this project are to establish a communication network in the OECS, facilitate and strengthen dialogue between member states and with the French Department of the Americas (Martinique and Guadeloupe) as well as enhance visibility of the OECS cultures on the internet and to provide cultural alternative models for the people of the region.
     
    A launching ceremony for the networks Cultural Internet Café will be held at the Alliance Francaise at 5:00 p.m. It is organized by the St. Kitts and Nevis National Steering Committee of the OECS Cultural Network in collaboration with the OECS Secretariat and the Government of France.
     
    Marlene Phillips Lee  the local project focal point  told SKNIS that the programme for Tuesday's launch will feature remarks from Lloyd Lazar - Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Armelle Chatelier - OECS Cultural Network Coordinator and Denis Viart - Cooperation and Cultural Action Chief of the French Embassy. 
     
    The OECS Cultural Network Project commenced in July 2002 and has registered over 60 participants from across the OECS and the French Departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe.  The Cultural organizations are grouped into five categories: performing arts (music, dance, etc), literature (including Creole and orality), visuals arts, festivals and events, as well as cultural heritage.
