BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH the passage of Tropical Storm Rafael, almost every individual in the twin island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis was affected, in some way, by the heavy flow of water and strong winds.
The pockets of some individuals may be emptied, due to the fact that they did not adhere to the storm warnings and had their vehicles swept away by the heavy flow of water in ghauts.
Others, including workers and school children, had to remain indoors as most places of employ were closed as well as school doors during the passage of the storm.
SKNVibes singled out the entrepreneurs of the Bay Road Bars, all of whom stated that while their bars suffered no damages, they all had flooding.
This, they said, led to some of them not being able to open for business both yesterday (Oct. 15) and today (Oct. 16).
Brooms and mops had to be regularly employed to rid the establishments of water and silt which had seeped through the crevices making it uncomfortable to the proprietors.
Some explained that their bars may be seen opened up but that is only for the purpose of cleaning the mess that was left behind due to the flooding.
Others were accommodating customers but explained that they saw fewer than usual customers patronising their bars.
They bemoaned the fact that business for them was already difficult due to the economic downturn, and the passage of TS Rafael had made it even worse as they have not been able to open their doors for the past few days and they have been seeing a reduction in the number of expected customers.
The other bar owners, however, indicated that as soon as the cleanup efforts are done, they would be open for business.
