Jamaican jailed in Antigua for marijuana possession

~~Adz:Right~~ ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda – A young Jamaican artiste, who was arrested for illegally importing marijuana at the V.C. Bird International Airport on September 7, was yesterday sentenced to prison.

Stession Reid, 28, was charged with possession of cannabis, importation and possession with intent to transfer.

Reid was taken before the Senior Magistrate at the All Saint’s Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty for possession and importation of cannabis but pleaded not guilty for possession with intent to transfer.

According to the Antigua Sun, Reid arrived on the island on board Caribbean Airlines on Sunday afternoon and was approached and searched by police officers who suspected that he had been involved in some sort of criminal activity. When searched, seven packs of wrapped cannabis weighing over 20 pounds were found in his luggage.

Reid apologised for the drug offence and explained that he was promised a well-needed sum of money for the transport of the drugs.

He was sentenced concurrently to two years for the possession of cannabis and fined EC $150 000 or two years in prison for importing cannabis.
