                                         Department of Agriculture to Host Solar Drying Workshop


    ~~Adz:Left~~ Roadtown, Tortola- The Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) will host a workshop on “Preserving our Fruits and Vegetables using Solar Drying.” 

     

    The workshop, which is the third part in a series on Building our Agricultural Industry, will be held from September 22 - 26 at the HLSCC Cafeteria from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.

     

    The main aim of the workshop is to transfer techniques on how to preserve local fruits and vegetables using the solar drying method. Workshop participants will also be taught how to market their products, including subject areas such as pricing, good presentation techniques, packaging and labelling.

     

    By the end of the workshop, it is expected that the participants will become more skilled in producing a higher quality solar dried product for consumption. Farmers, preservers, homemakers and other interested persons are strongly encouraged to attend.

     

    Dr. Anthony Richards, Manager of the College’s Marine Centre laboratories will facilitate the five-day workshop. Dr. Richards holds a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill and a doctorate in Microbiology from King’s College, University of London in the United Kingdom.
