BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-YESTERDAY (Sept. 11) at C & C Superfoods’ George Street location, four lucky customers were given the chance of a lifetime to grab cartloads of free groceries as part of the chain’s Independence celebrations.

According to Store Manager Keith Evelyn, the four shoppers chosen for the Independence Shopping Spree had their names entered into a drawing by buying $100 of groceries or more earlier in the year during the store’s ‘Health and Teachers’ promotion.

“This shopping spree is our way of saying Happy Independence to people shop with us regularly,” Evelyn told SKNVibes.

The four shoppers were each given a cart and sixty seconds to raid the supermarket shelves for anything and everything they could possibly grab, which they would then be able to take home free of cost.

Some of the shoppers had very specific plans going into their dash, with one young mother grabbing loads of diapers and baby

food, while others searched out the most expensive items to fill their carts to the brim with.

Gale Dear was one of the latter contestants, heading straight for the $100 tins of powdered milk and hurling them into her cart.

“My strategy was to just grab the most expensive things I could, like milk and cheese,” she said. Also jammed into the cart were countless bars of Irish Spring soap and large bags of brown rice.

Dear had plenty of encouragement from her cheering family, especially her grandson Marle Grant, who nipped at her heels for the entire minute and repeatedly told her, ‘Hurry, grandma, you’re almost out of time’.

While waiting in line for the cashier to total up her haul, Dear said that one reason she chose to shop at C & C Superfoods was because they always put their customers first and gave back through promotions like the Independence Shopping Spree.

Evelyn said that the promotion was “a lot of fun and very exciting” for C & C to put on, even if the store gave away thousands of dollars in groceries for free.

“We at C & C don’t want to just get without giving back, so we are always happy to reward our customers for their loyalty.”

The manager noted that the promotion was part of C & C’s plan to always provide something new and exciting to their customers, just as the launch of their online store did earlier in the year.     ~~Adz:Right~~

“At C & C Superfoods we are very proactive. We take the initiative and we don’t look at what anybody else is doing. We always try to take the first step and lead the way,” he stated.
