    ~~Adz:Right~~ COURT CONVICTIONS

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Nevis man, who appeared before the court on a drug-related offence, was convicted and ordered to pay a fine or serve a custodial sentence.

     

    Bath Villager Ramona Hendrickson stood before the District “C” Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last on a charge of possession of cannabis and was fined $6 000, which is to be paid within three months or, in default, he would have to serve six months imprisonment.

     

    The offence was committed on Wednesday last at Cades Bay, Nevis.

     

    Pump Road, Nevis resident Jevon Pemberton appeared before the same court on charges of “carrying abroad an offensive weapon” to wit a knife and “possession of cannabis”. He was convicted of both charges and was fined $500 on the first, which is to be paid within two months or he would have to serve a month at Her Majesty’s Prison. On the second charge, he was fined $800, which is to be paid within three months or serve one month imprisonment. The police have reported that the offences were committed on September 10, 2008 at Stoney Grove.

     

    ARRESTS

     

    Three individuals, who were arrested and charged with violating the law, are expected to appear before the court to answer to their charges.

     

    David ‘Jahbal’ Henry of Hermitage, Cayon was arrested and charged with the offences of “possession of cannabis” and “making use of threatening language” while Pump Road, Nevis resident Juvanie Pemberton was arrested and charged with “possession of cannabis” and “carrying abroad an offensive weapon”. 

     

    “Making use of threatening language” is the charge for which Desmond Hazel of Lime Kiln Housing Project was arrested.
     
    OPERATION

     

    Search operations conducted by the District “B” Crime Response Unit resulted in a quantity of marijuana being prevented from hitting the streets of the country.

     

    A police press release informs that the Unit “conducted search operations in the Sandy Point area on Wednesday 10th September 2008 for illegal drugs, arms, ammunition and for items used in the commission crimes. Three marijuana plants approximately four feet high were found growing on a plot of land in the Soho area. Further searches also revealed four M16 shooting targets and 37 zip lock bags containing cannabis on a vacant piece of land in Mount Idle.”

     

    According to the release, the items were taken into police custody but no one has been held accountable for the find.
