Life is short, but we are becoming increasing so dependent on electrical powered technology that we feel "lost" without it - especially when unpredicted power outages remind us that we can be deprived of these conveniences in an instant.

Do we learn from these experiences, or do we lumber on like proverbial lemmings back into a power dependent existence.

Do we even store food, large bottles of water and cans of non-perishables in the event of an unexpected outage? We are now constantly wired, connected to everyone and their dogs – tweet’ing our precious time away, facebook'ing, facelook'ing, facecrook'ing and bbm'ing our very lives addicted to crackberries and iClones, our thumbs welcome when we sleep.

Dare I mention those who "sleep" with smart phones dangerously close to vital organs so as not to miss the late night "PING"s and to peep on the screen when it “ding”s during the wee hours of the night. These gadgets, widgets, and smart phones that we have lived without for millennia are now seen as essential to our very existence, as if we are joined by our hip to these devices, integrated into our beings in either a symbiotic or parasitic relationship making us one - voluntary cybots.

When was the last time you left home without your "dumb"-phone? Did you panic, rush back for the treasured device, your "pacemaker" as if your life depended on the missed message or facebook update? Are you addicted to your crackberry and iClones? Try quitting "cold turkey" - go 1 day without your treasured device and apps. Will you survive? Will you be reduced to a nervous wreck, gnawing and pawing your way back home to retrieve your missing vital organ, er device?

Will you pine away thinking of all you have missed by not being constantly connected - will the world miss your electronic fingerprint that day? I took the first step and re-introduced "Silent Sundays" to regain my sanity and reclaim 24hrs of rest, relaxation, refreshment, and rejuvenation. I now challenge you to take 1 day call it SILENT SUNDAY, or GREEN DAY, and practice 1 day free of technology by turning OFF EVERYTHING - no lights, no computer, no television, no radio, and most importantly NO PHONE! Take it in strides, try 1hr, 2hrs, 4hrs, 8hrs, 12hrs or the full 24hrs!!

It will be mutually beneficial to both you and you know who! You will get a chance to speak to your family, friends and neighbors in person, and re-connect on many levels to the REAL YOU, not your online presence or profile. Meanwhile, the rest of the world will continue to rotate gently on its tilted axis, YOU will not cease to exist - and viola! A new day will dawn... ...and life, as we know it, goes on!
