Traffic Warden commended for extra-ordinary commitment to her school

Traffic Warden Tamika Farrell receives gift basket from representative of the parents and teachers of the Seventh Day Adventist School, Calvin Crooke (R)

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PARENTS and teachers of the Seventh Day Adventist School publicly commended Tamika Farrell, a Traffic Warden attached to that school, for performing above and beyond the call of her duty as well as for the interest she has vested in their children.

Yesterday morning (Oct. 22), the parents and teachers - in the presence of the student body - presented a gift basket to Tamika Farrell, expressed their satisfaction with her general performance and applauded her for the example that she continues to show.

As the Traffic Warden for that area, Farrell has the responsibility of ensuring that students and teachers of the establishment utilise the crossing and that they cross from one side of the street to the next safely.

Farrell – who has worked with the Traffic Department for seven years - took up responsibility at the Seventh Day Adventist School in April 2012 and, according to the reports reaching this media house, she does much more and seems to know every child by name.

By all accounts, her responsibilities extend beyond assisting the children to safely cross from one side of the street to the next. She looks out for their well-being by remaining at the school sometimes long after she is scheduled to conclude working, just to ensure that they are safely collected by their parents.

On behalf of the teachers, the school’s Principal, Yvette Blanchette, also expressed appreciation to Farrell for her extreme vigilance.

Also present at the handing-over ceremony was Inspector Cromwell Henry – Head of the Traffic Department - who thanked the parents and teachers for recognising and honouring Farrell’s good work.

“It is not common that people would reward good work, but they would quickly complain when Traffic Wardens do not meet their expectations. So I am very pleased to know that the Traffic Warden at that school work is appreciated and that she was publically recognised for her work”, he told SKNVibes.

In encouraging others to reward other Traffic Wardens whose performance they deem exemplary, Henry suggested, “Do likewise if they are similarly satisfied with the performance of the Traffic Warden at their school. Do not just complain them when they are not there on time or when they do not meet expectations. But when they do meet or exceed expectations, let them know. Even if just to meet them and tell them one-on-one, let them know. Write a letter to them if you want to, but let them know that you are pleased with their performance.”

SKNVibes spoke with Farrell who noted that she is willing to go the extra mile because she is understanding of the plight of parents, some of whom are caught in extended meetings.

She said the gesture caught her by surprise but noted that she is appreciative of it.

Congratulations Farrell and keep up the good work!
