CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - PASTOR Davidson Morton of Eden Brown Church of God called on political leaders and all citizens and residents of Nevis to put God first in everything they do.

Pastor Morton said it was the grace of God that had brought the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis this far and, world institutions come and go but the church is the only one among them that could not be voted out.

He called on the Christian community to speak out when things are not right and reminded them that the biblical Mordecai had perceived all was not well when the Jews were threatened with genocide and he responded by protecting them.

Pastor Morton said at a time like this, nations were sustained by prayer. He said under the direction of Mordecai, biblical Esther had seized the moment when the entire nation was threatened with genocide and had spoken to the king. Esther had said, “If , I perish, I perish.”

“Do not drop the baton of prayer. Prayer changes things. Blessings come from God,” he said. Pastor Morton said men and women who hold high offices are required to walk in integrity: “A skill can get you where you are but only character can keep you there. Walk in integrity.”

Pastor Morton said leaders are appointed by God at specific times: “Sim Daniel led us to a certain point. God said ‘thank you’. Vance Amory led us to a certain point,” he told his audience and added that currently, Joseph Parry is the leader and “you cannot hold it forever,” he said.

He told leaders to take the example of John the Baptist who had amicably passed the baton to Jesus.

“Despite the fact that John the Baptist held a special position before Christ came, on Christ’s arrival he passed on the baton and said, ‘I must decrease’.

Do not drop the baton of family values. Do not drop the baton of love and caring for one another,” he said and called on members of the Nevis Reformation Party and Concerned Citizens Movement to love one another.

“Be gracious when you do not win. Be careful how you run when you win,” Pastor Morton advised the leaders. He called on the political leaders to be alert as to what is happening in other parts of the world.    ~~Adz:Right~~

He also spoke of dangers of empire building and called on world leaders to research on what happened in history to nations that took over other countries and institutions for self gain.

He cited Assyria, Rome and others. “Any nation that disregards the moral fibre of a society is doomed to failure,” he said.
