Silver Jubilee Awardees to be acknowledged

~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FORTY-FOUR nationals are to receive recognition at the Silver Jubilee Awards Ceremony today, National Heroes’ Day, from 5:30 p.m. at the Royal St. Kitts Resort and Casino.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, Social and Community Development, a list of individuals, who have demonstrated leadership and philanthropy through their active involvement in community-based initiatives while promoting collaboration and cooperation across diverse groups, was noted to receive formal recognition.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Social and Community Development Elvis Newton told SKNVibes that the purpose of the ceremony is to “recognise ordinary citizens and residents of the country who would have contributed to our social development”.
“It is different from the National Awards as it recognises the everyday service of the ordinary people to community development. I believe that this ceremony is a fitting contribution to the awardees and augments other activities for the celebration of our Independence. The Ministry is very pleased to be associated with a ceremony of this nature as it is important to give ongoing recognition for persons who have contributed greatly to the society,” Newton added.
In the area of community Service, 16 individuals will be awarded including Joycelyn Matthew of Central Basseterre, Louisa Jeffers of West Basseterre, Yvonne Seaton of Palmetto Point, Venetta Henry of Sandy Point Town, Eugene Hyliger of Fig Tree, Beryl Gumbs of Dieppe Bay, Onesimus Mason of Parson’s Village, Austin Dickenson of Lavington, Paula Herbert of Belle Vue, Wilman Mc Call of Mansion, Annie Mac Barnette of Tabernacle, Prescott Stevens of Christ Church, Catherine Prentice-Bradshaw of Phillips’, Vernon Benjamin of Cayon, Emmanuel Johnny Berridge of Keys and Leroy Bailey of Frigate Bay.
Beverly Herbert of Central Bassterre, Desiree Bass of St. Peter’s, Albertine Nero of New Town and Franklyn Brand of Bird Rock will be recognised in the area of Business, while Dennis Phillip of Central Basseterre, Samuel Bradshaw of Newton Ground, Rudolph ‘Shaman’ Francis of St. Paul’s, Warren Bradshaw of Saddlers and Myron Charles of Ottley’s will receive awards for Business and Community Service.
Culbert Browne of Central Basseterre and Glenroy Simmonds of Challengers will be awarded for Sports and Grace Lewis of Molineux and Sherilyn Bristol of Lodge Project will be awarded in the area of Sports and Community Service.
In the area of Education, Yvette Wallace of Boyds, Sylvester Charles of Bird Rock and Kathleen Hobson of Conaree will receive awards while Nigel Williams of Lodge Village and Cyril Douglas of Old Road will receive an award for Education and Community Service and Fishing respectively. Alphonso Franks of Lambert’s will be recognised for Transportation and Edmund Johnson of Half Way Tree for Tourism/Transportation.
NEMA will recognise nine nationals from the various districts for the contributions in the area of Disaster Management. The awardees are Alexis Knight, H.E. Ambassador Errol Maynard, Wilfred Welsh, Othniel Hyliger, Roland Uddenberg and Earnest Wigley. Posthumous awardees are Cecil Roberts, Glen George and Frank Tyson.
Special awards will also be given to the winners of the Independence Theme Competition including Guevelle Pemberton of the St. Theresa’s Convent School, Davern Johnson of the Newton Ground Primary School, Yvado Simmonds of St. Thomas Primary School; and for the Independence Postage Stamp Competition, the list includes Jonathon Browne and Melvin Maynard of the Basseterre High School and Dennis Richards, lecturer at the CFB College.
The ceremony will be held under the distinguished patronage of Governor-General of St. Kitts and Nevis Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and will also feature the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, delivering the main address.
