Traffic Warden Tamika Farrell receives letter of commendation from Police Commissioner Celvin ’CG’ Walwyn

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING her recent commendation for performing above and beyond the call of duty and for the interest vested in students of the Seventh Day Adventist School, Traffic Warden Tamika Farrell was further commended by Police Commissioner Celvin ‘CG’ Warner.

According to Police Press and Information Officer Inspector Lyndon David, “Commissioner Walwyn presented Traffic Warden Farrell with a letter of commendation for her hard work and dedication to duty.”

The event was held in the Commissioner’s office at the Police Headquarters in Basseterre on Thursday (Oct. 25).

“Traffic Warden Farrell is positioned at a pedestrian crossing near the Seventh Day Adventist School, and on Monday, October 22, 2012 she was recognised by that institution for her excellent performance.

“The Commissioner of Police, High Command and other Gazetted Officers took the opportunity to encourage members of the force to continue to perform their duties with excellence,” Inspector David said.

Farrell, who has been working with the Traffic Department for seven years, took up responsibility at the Seventh Day Adventist School in April 2012 and, according to reports reaching this media house, she does much more and seems to know every child by name.

Reports also indicated that her responsibilities extend beyond assisting the children to safely cross from one side of the street to the next, whereby she looks out for their well-being by remaining at the school, sometimes long after she is scheduled to conclude working, just to ensure that they are safely collected by their parents.

On Monday, last, parents and teachers of the Seventh Day Adventist School had demonstrated their appreciation for Farrell in the execution of her duty by presenting her with a gift basket.

Head of the Traffic Department, Inspector Cromwell Henry, who was present at the simple but significant ceremony, thanked the parents and teachers for recognising and honouring Farrell’s good work.

He noted that it is uncommon for people to reward Traffic Wardens for their good work, “but they would quickly complain when Traffic Wardens do not meet their expectations. So I am very pleased to know that the Traffic Warden at that school work is appreciated and that she was publically recognised for her work”.
