Vehicle crashes into Old Road Bay; occupants sustain minor injuries

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OLD ROAD BAY is a peculiar place to take an early morning swim, and had it not been for the fact that the vehicle in which they were travelling had plummeted into the water, the three occupants probably would have forgone that activity.

It was about 6:23 a.m. on Sunday (Oct. 28) when motor van PA6226 ran off the Island’s Main Road and was dumped into the Old Road Bay.

SGT Calvin Amory of the Traffic Department told this publication that, according to information he received from the Old Road Police Station, the vehicle was being driven by Sheldon Burnham of Verchilds when the incident occurred.

He explained that Burnham was heading to Verchilds from Basseterre, and while driving across Old Road Bay he lost control of the vehicle, collided with a utility pole on the seaside of the road, overturned and landed in the Caribbean Sea.

The impact snapped the utility pole into two parts before it fell to the ground.

He further indicated that, according to the information he gathered, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was summoned to the scene and Burnham – along with the two other occupants of the vehicle – was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.

And while the vehicle was extensively damaged, the driver and passengers sustained minor injuries.

The scene was visited and processed by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Burnham and the other occupants of the vehicle were released from the hospital following treatment.
