                                  Leading Fire Officer to Attend Breathing Apparatus Course in UK

    ~~Adz:Left~~ Roadtown, Tortola- Leading Fire Officer, Mr. Marcus Malone of the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service Department is attending a 12-day Breathing Apparatus Instructor Training Course.

     

    A breathing apparatus is a device worn by rescue workers, fire fighters, and others to provide breathable air in a hostile environment.

     

    The Training Course, which is being held at the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom started Monday, September 15 and will conclude on September 26.

     

    Station Officer Mr. William Penn told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the aim of the course is to devise and deliver training on the technical aspects and operational use of breathing apparatus competently. 

     

    “The training course will focus on breathing apparatus procedures and equipment; physiology of respiration; heat and humidity; confined spaces; principles of safety; risk assessment; training and exercise planning,” Mr. Penn said.

     

    Mr. Penn added that at the conclusion of the training course, Mr. Malone is expected to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of breathing apparatus procedures and techniques used by the United Kingdom Fire and Rescue Service.

     

    The mission of the BVI Fire and Rescue Service Department is to protect life and property from the ravages of fire and other natural and manmade disasters.
