BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Cable celebrated its 25th Anniversary of service to the nation in grand style with an elegant Banquet at the Royal St. Kitts Marriott Hotel Ballroom on Monday, September 15.
According to Managing Engineer Val Browne, the celebration is a milestone that reflects the hard work that has been put into the company. He admitted that there are many problems that the company faces, but said it has somehow managed to stay afloat and become a major organisation in the country.
Chairman of The Cable Wendell Lawrence expressed his pleasure in being a part of a business that has made a great contribution to the development of the nation. He stated that the progress of The Cable mirrors the progress of the nation on a whole. He informed that although the business started with capital of less than EC$500 000, today it could boast of its total assets in excess of EC$25m, lowest rates in the Eastern Caribbean, reliability of service and prompt response in dealing with customer problems.
“Even though we are a new company, our infrastructure is next to none. One of our most important roles is education. Cable has played a significant role in ensuring that the people of St. Kitts-Nevis stay informed and are able to utilise the Internet to understand and explore new business possibilities.
“The achievements of The Cable have been built on the backs of local people. I am proud of our people who have been enhanced through people-empowerment and human resource development.”
He thanked the governments, both present and past, for their strong support in allowing the company to provide quality service to the country.
General Manager of The Cable William Ewing was equally satisfied with the accomplishments of the company. He initially thanked his members of staff, who he noted are very “talented, dedicated and trained to do the job well”.
“This means everything to me! The dream has evolved into a major telecom player; we are giving other companies competition... and we are here to stay! We are coming with dominant force which not only includes cable TV but also high speed Internet, telephony and may include security services in the near future. We’ve got the infrastructure to do this and we’re going fully digital. We are going to beat the competition in this island!”
Ewing said the company would be working on achieving more training to improve human resource, as plans for the company has grown far beyond what was expected 25 years ago.
