Clash of the High Schools promises stiff competition

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SOME of the Federation’s high schools will be competing this weekend in the annual Clash of the High Schools competition slated for Carnival Village on Saturday (Nov. 3) at 7:00 p.m.

The event is being hosted by Island Soul Entertainment (ISE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, and attendees will see last year’s winners Basseterre High School defend their title against Cayon High School, Charles E. Mills, Immaculate Conception Catholic School and Washington Archibald High School.

Cheddi Bradshaw of ISE said that schools would be competing for the top cash prize and other gifts.

He said that in past competitions there were eliminations, but this time around there would be none and so all the schools would present two dance and two song performances on the night.

Bradshaw said the hype of the competition has been good as Washington Archibald High, which had won the competition back to back in 2009 and 2010 and was unable to compete in 2011, is hoping to regain the title.

He said the purpose of the competition is to encourage youth empowerment and development.

“It is a way to expose their talent to the community, to show their skills and show there are still positive youths in the community.

“The competition has contributed to the self-esteem of young people, as they use it as one of the avenues to showcase their talents,” he said.

For the very first there will be a theme called ‘Something Worldwide’ and the students will have to choose a country and showcase their culture in song and dance.

    The second round is freestyle.

There will be guest performances by Nicha B, Alimo (fire eater), Cashman and a special guest artiste.
