BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A young man was on Thursday (Nov. 1) sentenced to serve six and eight months in prison, following his guilty plea to wounding with intent and unlawful wound at the opening of the September Criminal Assizes.
Anthony Hodge was charged with the March 22, 2011 wounding of Patrick Nicholls with intent to do grievous bodily harm at Godwin Ghaut.
Before being sentenced, Hodge told the Court that he was remorseful for what he did.
"I just want to say that I am sorry for doing what I did to the victim."
The Social Inquiry Report carried out on Hodge described him as a quiet person who was never in trouble with the law.
The report stated that he had to face many challenges since birth, having parents who were alcoholics.
It further stated that his actions did not paint a true picture of his demeanour, noting that his family portrayed him as a humble and hard working individual.
Justice Thomas, before passing judgement, made reference to the growing number of wounding offences and stated that something must be done to deter others.
Hodge was sentenced to 10 years in prison which was reduced by one third for his guilty plea. He would be serving six years and eight months.
