Roadtown, Tortola- The BVI Technical Vocational Institute recently received a donation of two laptop computers and a printer from the Child In Need Fund, a local charitable organisation.

The presentation, which was made during the school’s general assembly on September 17 by Trustee Member of the Child In Need Fund Mrs. Nadine Battle, was received with great enthusiasm by the teachers and students. Speaking at the presentation, Education Officer for Technical and Vocational Education and Training Mr. Allen Hodge said it is a pleasure for him to attend events such as these.

“I really want to thank Mrs. Battle and her organisation for making this contribution to the school,” he said.

“While it is the responsibility of the Government to provide for schools it is also the responsibility of the Territory to assist with the needs of our schools,” Mr. Hodge told the gathering, adding, “I am very appreciative of this organisation because this shows that not only Government but also non-governmental organisations are there making sure that you the students get the things that you need to help you in your educational journey.”

Mr. Hodge urged the students to appreciate what this organisation has done and to use the equipment to the fullest.

Principal of the BVI Technical Vocational Institute Mrs. Cynthia Brannigan also thanked the organisation for the donation to the school. “We are grateful to the trustees of the Child In Need Fund for donating this equipment to the school. We are extremely overwhelmed with this gift that was very much needed at the school,” Mrs. Brannigan said.  ~~Adz:Right~~

Mrs. Battle said the Child in Need Fund was started some 30 years ago by a group of nurses and doctors. Its mission is to help children in the Territory who need medical assistance overseas.

The overall aim of the BVI Technical Vocational Institute is to provide training for persons in the school system who demonstrate an interest in and aptitude for work in technical areas. The Institute is intended to help students build competence in vocational areas; provide them with access to secondary education through an alternative medium; prepare them for national, regional and international certification; and train them for entry into the job market.
