~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN a brief ceremony held at the Basseterre High School Auditorium on September 18, Cable and Wireless (C&W) made a special presentation to representatives from all the early childhood, primary and secondary schools in the Federation.

C&W donated 13 500 bags bearing the company’s logo along with the special Silver Jubilee logo and containing various items including balls, water bottles, wristbands and school supplies all bearing both logos.

Vice President of Networks Services Rudolph Knight, in deputising for the CEO of C&W (St. Kitts), made the presentation to the pupils and students as well as teachers from the various schools. He explained to the recipients that C&W recognises the pivotal role that education plays in the development and progress of a people and has, over the years, been a model in sponsoring various scholarship programmes across the nation.

“We felt that reaching this 25th Anniversary milestone, a tangible donation was to give these bags to every student in every public school from early childhood to secondary level.

“It is our hope that the students remain focussed with an understanding that education is of paramount importance. We also hope that in the long run, each student maintains the commitment to ensure that St. Kitts-Nevis remains a centre of excellence.”

Knight added that the EC$250 000 project was worth it, as C&W focuses more on the value and impression that it would have on the students to see possibilities and empower themselves. He also emphasised his pleasure to be a part of the contribution toward the advancement of education in the Federation.

Minister of Education Hon. Sam Condor admonished the represented schools to acknowledge the importance of education to the continuation of the nation and attempted to sensitise the students to recognize their role in “taking the nation forward”.

“About 30 percent of our nation’s population are under the age of 18 and if we are to continue to have pride, development and progress, it is the young generation who will be responsible for taking it forward.

“Children have been playing an important role in our years of Independence... this has been about the future of our children. Although we celebrate the past, we are hopeful for the future. It is just like passing on a baton but it’s a race that never ends; it goes on for many generations.

Minister Condor challenged the students present to ensure that after the next 25 years, one will be able to say that they had pride, development and progress and be 25 years of success.
