Kajola employees entertain in safety

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LAUGHTER and excitement filled the air at Kajola Kristada Friday afternoon (Nov. 9) as the employees conducted an entertaining concert with a very important message – “Safety is everyone's business”.

This concert, although short, featured a number of the company’s employees entertaining the others through song, drama and poem recitals all about safety.

The presentation came as part of the Safety Week of activities that Kajola holds annually.

The show opened with an employee reciting the company's mission statement and it continued with the entity's Connector Line performing a poem entitled ‘The meaning of safety’.

The performing employees each held a letter in their hand and stated what it meant with regards to safety.

Two employees performed a drama presentation called ‘Earthquake’. One spoke while the other acted out the words which gave instructions on what to do in situations of earthquakes, stressing that one should not panic or run about wondering what to do.

The audience were near tears as they could not stop laughing, chiming in at the end of every scene with the instructions "drop, cover and hold on".

A number of employees dramatised Bomb Threat, which depicted persons panicking after receiving a threat and no one knowing what should be done to ensure the safety of everyone.

Octavia Richards, another employee, recited an original poem, emphasising the importance of safety in the workplace, and accentuated the fact that if one were to have a truly safe environment one must be aware of potential dangers.

"To stay safe, you must be aware," one line said.

Another drama presentation, Hurricane, depicted the hurried preparations made - because there were none in place beforehand - after receiving information that a storm was going to hit at any minute.

The moral of play was that one should not wait until the last minute to make preparations for storms or any other natural disaster.

The curtains came down with a calypso performance entitled ‘Kajolians lend me your ear’, which was sung by Nerissa. It was based on some of the company’s accomplishments.

The audience was heard chiming in at the chorus singing "Kajolians lend me your ears, let me tell you what I hear", while the Master of Ceremonies, Kevin Taylor, kept the crowd rolling with laughter between each presentation.

Kajola's Safety Week commenced on November 4, 2012 with a Church Service at the Immaculate Conception Co-Cathedral Catholic Church in Basseterre.

The week continued with two doctors - Andrew Holness and Patrick Martin - who spoke to the employees on the topic of cancer, one speaking specifically on Breast Cancer while the other took the general approach.
