BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A Nevisian is presently being tried at the Nevis High Court for indecently assaulting a minor.

The man was charged with indecent assault of a child under the age of seven; an offence that he allegedly committed on July 23, 2011.

The trial began Friday (Nov. 9), last, with Attorney Dennis Merchant heading the prosecution team while the accused stands unrepresented.

The prosecution called six witnesses, including the victim, Dr. John Essien and the investigating officers in the matter to testify on their behalf to prove that on the said date the accused, while at the victim’s home, did indecently assault the child who at the time was just five years old.

After the prosecution rested its case, the accused chose not to testify or call witnesses to give evidence on his behalf.

Today (Nov. 12), Justice Paul Dennis will be delivering the summation of the case after which the jury would go into deliberation.

If convicted, the man could possibly be sentenced to 10 years in jail.
