                        Minister Fraser Welcomes CARILEC Delegates to the Territory

    Roadtown, Tortola-

     

     

    Minister for Communications and Works the Honourable Julian Fraser, RA yesterday welcomed delegates from the Caribbean Electrical Utilities Association (CARILEC) to a two-day conference of human resource professionals being held in the Territory.

     

    The conference is being hosted by the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) in collaboration with CARILEC from September 18-19 at Long Bay Beach Resort, under the theme “Mitigating the Impact of ‘The Talent War’: Succession Planning and Ethical HR.”

     

    Minister Fraser applauded CARILEC’s efforts for holding the conference despite recent global and regional economic conditions. “You have kept your focus on the business at hand with a view to making your respective organisations better,” Minister Fraser said.

     

    “I have always contended that it is the duty of the Human Resources Department of any organisation to network, network and network; and if that fails, you network, so that when managers are in need of people, there will be no hesitation in finding them,” Minister Fraser added.

     

    Minister Fraser encouraged the BVIEC to reach out to CARILEC for assistance in those areas where there are strengths and build from them.

    utilising them to balance human needs, wants, wishes and desires with those of the companies they represent.

     

    “I personally think that working in the Human Resources field is a big challenge and I applaud you for your choice and taking time out for this conference where you get to sit back and refocus yourselves on what is a tremendous challenge in the work force today,” Mrs. Penn added.

     

    Participants at the two-day conference, which ended today took part in discussions on ways to measure the effectiveness of training; skills development; criteria and considerations for selecting the best insurance package for your company; transitioning from engineer to human resources manager and managing “Generation X”, among other topics.

     

    CARILEC is a regional association which advances the capability of the Caribbean electric utility industry.  Its mission is to build the efficiency and viability of its members and to support their efforts at improving the quality of life of the Caribbean people by delivering products and services that are relevant, cost-effective and of the highest quality.
