OLD ROAD, St. Kitts -  FROM sky-high heels to dressy sandals, skin-fit dresses and many other fashionable sorts, the ratio was eight women to two men at Evolution HD’s first annual ‘Hot Gyal Salute’ event, which was held last Saturday night at Sprat Net.

Evolution HD kept the crowd grooving and rocking during the start of the event with Selecta Plann. He played a number of tunes which the ladies liked as they were seen swaying and rocking to Tarrus Riley’s ‘She’s Royal’ and Richie Spice’s ‘Brown Skin’.

Following was DJ Flames out of Mad Squad Sound, who played a genre mix of women empowerment tunes; just right for the ladies.

Popular SKN female DJ, Sister Sensia of Trendsetter Movement, as usual hyped up her female fans. She opened her segment with some conscious hitting reggae; opening with ‘Who The Cap Fit’ by Bob Marley. Sizzla’s ‘Solid As A Rock’ tune was also blazed.

Two females in the front section of the dance - close to the sound system area - took turns at sharing the spotlight.

The other women in attendance danced and enjoyed themselves in the girls-themed party atmosphere. Both ladies showed how they could do the ‘Bubble Gyal A Bubble’ motion. The ladies also dropped it low and gyrated their bodies to some popular dancehall hits and soca too.

In her unique emcee style, Sister Sensia encouraged the ladies to show how they get down on the dance floor with her diverse blend of selections.

Following Sister Sensia’s hour-long performance was the guest performance out of Emcee DD from Sister SoulJahs Sound from Antigua.

During her performance which clocked just a few minutes over an hour, she mixed up rap, dancehall and old school. Included in her play selection were the crazy segment and the party’s hard segment.

The self-acclaimed ‘sweetest band in the world, Small Axe Band, brought an end to the event with a jam session during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Following the launch of Sugar Mas in Basseterre earlier that night, this band definitely refreshed some Carnival vibes to the Sprat Net venue with their popular jams such as ‘Soap Drop’ and ‘Drop Cover Hold’.

The famous ‘Shirley Biscuit’ lady jammed with Mr. World of the Small Axe Band in his usual playful way to the audience’s delight.

At the event, the men had a good time also and some were seen jamming with female dance companions. However, groups of girlfriends were obviously pretty content dancing and having a good time amongst themselves.

Speaking with Sister Sensia following performance, she told SKNVibes that the event was “Jiggy…I like it”.

On the topic of battle of the sexes in the DJ arena, she commented: “It is a field dominated by men but, at the same time, I know what I can do. It’s just for other women to come out and prove what they can do now.”

Sister Sensia, who is also an uprising singer, informed that she started DJing at age 14.

“I love music; anything with music,” she said.

Asked if she thought if she would have reached this far in her music career, Sister Sensia confidently expressed that she knew she would.

As gathered, she was aware of her ability with the mindset that “nothing could stop me from reaching my goals.”

In every event, her objective is to “make my fans happy, so when they go home they could say Sensia did a good”.

She was asked about Trendsetter Movement.

“That’s the name of my sound system. People hearing Trendsetter and they think it’s a bunch of girls. But no, that’s the name of my sound…because I find myself as a woman coming out and doing what I do and setting the trend for women to do the same thing too. That’s why I call it Trendsetter because I set the trend for this,” she replied.

Selecta DD said the event was “really good”, adding that a lot of people came out. She said that she played a little bit of everything.

Chief Executive Officer of Evolution HD, Yusef ‘Selector Ubal’ Connor said the event was good and that he is looking forward to putting on the second annual ‘Hot Gyal Salute’.

As shared by him, he is looking to make the second event “more concert-style”.

Connor expressed thanks to everyone who went to the party and also those who showed their support in a tangible way. Sponsors, contributors and partners of the event were also thanked.
