Grassroots football in Cayon benefits from donation

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - HUNDREDS of primary schools students in Cayon were this morning (Nov. 14) made happy when the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) handed over some football equipment to the Cayon Primary School via the Cayon Football Club that has adopted the learning institution.

Some 12 footballs, 30 jerseys, training bibs, CDs, books and cones were donated to the school and handed over to Principal Marva Buchanan by SKNFA’s Technical Director Lenny Lake and Chairman of the Youth Committee of the SKNFA Dominic Stevens in the presence of the President of the Cayon Football Club and Grass Roots Coordinator for the school, Iantha Burke, and the entire student body.

Burke encouraged the students to come out to the Grassroots Programme that takes place at the school every Wednesday since October 2011.

Stevens told the students that it warmed his heart to attend the handing over ceremony.

He added that the SKNFA embarked on the Grassroots Programme to ensure all children throughout the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, whether in schools or communities, be equipped with the necessary equipment to play the game of football and have fun.

Stevens charged the students to have fun whenever they are playing the game.

He also said that as a former student of the school it really pleased him to be a part of the ceremony that showed Grassroots is alive and well at the Cayon Primary School.

Following his brief address, Stevens then proceeded, along with Lake, to hand over the equipment on behalf of the President and Executive Members of the SKNFA.

The Grassroots Programme targets children between the ages of six and 12 years.
