Minister commends new team of education officials

(EMU) – St. Kitts, Nov 13, 2012 -- A cadre of young, new professionals is being credited with the aggressive approach being taken by the Ministry of Education to meet the needs of learners in the community by various innovative means.

According to Minister of Education Hon. Nigel Carty who addressed a recent meeting of Heads of Department, his ministry, based on its record of long standing and committed educators, has not traditionally had as rapid  turn-over as other ministries. He stated that the recent addition of a number of new professionals in key areas has brought a fresh approach and flexibility to non-traditional methods of educating.

Emphasizing the fact that he was in full support of his team, the Minister told the Education Media Unit that to the best of his ability he would ensure that they would have the resources to allow them to research and implement bold new strategies fearlessly but he would also challenge them to streamline their budget to reflect fiscal realities as well as to seek out private partnerships with stakeholders.

The meeting included discussions on such topics as the One to One laptop Project; School Meals Revisited; Mathematics and Reading Task Forces; Specialist Math Teachers; Single Sex Education; Early Child Hood Education and School Safety.

The meeting was chaired by Permanent Secretary, Ionie Liburd Willett. Minister Carty also highlighted the valuable contributions of past senior education officials as the foundation for the positive advancement which is being experienced.

Planning meetings are held on am Monthly basis.
