First Prime Minister of St. Kitts-Nevis, The Right  Excellent Sir  Kennedy Simmonds
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Right  Excellent Sir Kennedy Simmonds, first Prime Minister of St. Kitts-Nevis, was left in despair after having been embarrassingly searched at the RLB International Airport on Wednesday, September 17.

According to WINN FM, Dr. Simmonds called in on the station’s Inside the News programme last Saturday and informed the nation of his mortifying experience while clearing immigration at the airport.

Simmonds explained that he was on his way to New York to receive an award in recognition for his many contributions to the development of St. Kitts-Nevis, when he was stopped by an American Airlines attendant for random search.

“I have never ever been searched the way I was just prior to boarding anywhere in the world, as I was on Wednesday on my way to New York.

I was pulled aside, ‘Stand aside sir’, and then I was invited over to this table and this gentleman said to me that I was selected for random search. I was the only person on that flight who was searched. And by the time they were finished with me, every other passenger had already gone out and boarded! There wasn’t even anyone on the tarmac,” Sir Kennedy added.  ~~Adz:Right~~

Dr. Simmonds continued to explain that he was asked to sit down and remove his shoes from his person and to hold his feet up in the air to be scanned with the security detector. Simmonds said immediately after that he was told to empty his pockets, adding that at the end of the search “the only thing that was left after that frankly, was for him to tell me to take my clothes off!” His shoes were inspected repeatedly, both inside and out, and his personal handbags were thoroughly searched.

Kenrick Simmonds, son of the first Prime Minister, questioned whether it was actually a “random search” and claimed that he is “fully aware of the security codes and protocol” of the airlines. He expressed his concern in how “the former Prime Minister of the country, during the week of our 25th Anniversary [of Independence] among so many other persons who they knew nothing about... they chose him. Do you think that attendant didn’t know who he was?”

Kenrick added that his father is well-known and should have never been subjected to that sort of treatment.
SKNVibes made numerous attempts to contact employees of American Airlines but no one answered the company’s phone. Repeated calls were also made to officials of the company on their personal phones and they also refused to answer.

When contacted by this media house, Kenrick Simmonds noted that he and his father had already made statements and they wish to “leave things as they are”.
