    UVI official home opener postponed

~~Adz:Right~~ St. Thomas, USVI - The first official home game of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Bucs Volleyball team is yet to be played after UPR- Bayamon out of Puerto Rico, was a no-show for the September 20 match.

The administrative body of the Liga Atletica de Puerto Rico (LAI), which organizes the tournament will determine the result of Friday's no show.

To compensate for the missed game, the UVI Bucs Volleyball team was divided into two squads, veterans and rookies, to play in friendly competition. The veterans won the game in five exciting sets in front of a sizeable and appreciative crowd.

The UVI Bucs played a previous game at home on September 11th against Humacao University, out of Puerto Rico, but because of several mitigating factors the game was not listed as an official bout. The Bucs eventually won that game in three sets.

To date, the UVI Bucs Volleyball team has a record of one win and two losses. One loss came against defending champion Sacred Heart, in three straight sets, and the other against American University, one of the strongest teams in the league, in five nail-biting sets. Both matches were played in Puerto Rico.

The team is due to travel to Puerto Rico on September 26th to play two matches- against University of Puerto Rico, Rio Pedras, that same evening and the University of Puerto Rico, Carolina, on the 27th.

The next home game is scheduled for October 10th, against the University of Central Bayamon (Puerto Rico).

The team is working assiduously to rebound from the consecutive losses and to build on the fact that the present team is one of the best that has been assembled in recent years. The squad includes three Kittitians- St. Clair Hodge, Campbell Douglas and Shawn Seabrookes and features veterans such as its captain Alvaro De Lugo, Brandon Varlack, Adlah Donastorg and Jahaua Joseph.

All matches are against Puerto Rican universities.
