Magistrate sentences Ponds Pasture man to 12 years in prison

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A 23-year-old man was today (Nov. 20) given a 12-year prison sentence by Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded guilty to gun possession.

     

    Kenville Finch was charged with one count each of possession of firearm and ammunition, having been found with a firearm and ammunition on the morning of June 23, 2012.

     

    According to the facts of the case, at about 4: 30 a.m. on the day in question, Finch was found with a .25 Calibre Titan Automatic Pistol with seven matching rounds of ammunition by members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force.

     

    The men were on patrol in the Newtown area when they encountered Finch at Paul Southwell Drive. Upon being seen, he immediately took an object from his pocket and threw it in some nearby bushes, and it was later revealed that the object was a firearm with ammunition.

     

    Finch, the firearm and ammunition were taken into police custody and he was arrested and formally charged on June 25, 2012.

     

    Finch escaped maximum sentence due to the fact that this was his first offence.

     

    The Ponds Pasture resident was sentenced to serve six years on each count, which would run concurrently.
