CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - ASIM PARRIS, a resident of Stoney Grove, was yesterday sentenced to jail for possession of crack cocaine.

Appearing before Magistrate Yasmine Clarke, the 30-year-old man was sentenced to serve two and a half years at Her Majesty’s Prison, an institution he swore never to re-enter…not even for a day.

Parris made this pronouncement to SKNVibes during an interview while a patient at the Alexandra Hospital after he was shot when driving past Low Street shortly after midnight on Saturday, May 17, 2008.

This media house was told that Parris braved the injuries sustained and drove himself to Alexandra Hospital, and while there, Parris told SKNVibes that “this is a stumbling block (referring to the shooting).

I am changing my lifestyle; I do not want to go to prison again. I own a car which I also use as a taxi and I also work for a road construction company”.

He went on to say: “I do not want to go to prison; I prefer to be dead than go to prison again. I do not want to sleep on concrete again. I am trying to cool and then I get this stumbling block…a lot of men are after me; they want me to stay in the slum but I want to build a house before I am 35.”

Parris’ plan of house-building will now have to wait, as the institution he is so afraid of will be his home for the next 30 months.  ~~Adz:Right~~
