Fees implemented to visit Day Time Entry Zone

    BRADES, Montserrat, November 30th, 2012 – A fee has now been implemented to enter the Exclusion Zone according to the Honourable Minister of Finance & Economic Management Reuben Meade. The administration fee goes into effect as of December 1, 2012 and requires that it be paid at the Royal Montserrat Police Headquarters in Brades.

     

    According to Acting Commissioner of Police Charles Thompson, “in compliance with a Cabinet decision, the Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS) will be granting access to the Day Time Entry Zone, (DTEZ) by a permit system,” commencing this Saturday.

     

    The public will have the opportunity to choose between applying for a day pass or an annual pass. The Temporary Permit or daily pass is valid for one day at a cost of $10 per person. An Annual Permit or year pass which is valid for one year from the date of issue, has a three tier payment structure.

     

    The cost of the annual pass is categorized as follows;
    • Residents/Tourist - $50
    • Tour Guide/Taxi Driver/Property Owners/Farmers - $50 -
    • Sandminers/Truck Drivers/Heavy Equipment Operators - $100

     

    Payment Exception for the permit system will be granted to Utility companies/Public Officer/Government Workers who are entering, Zone C, for official business.

     

    Procedure to obtain a permit
    In order to obtain a permit, individuals are required to complete an application form.  Once the application form is completed, the applicant after payment of the relevant fee will be issued with a permit; signed and stamped as proof of authorization. The applicant will be issued with a receipt as proof of payment which will be attached to the permit.  On arrival at the gate of entry the permit must be presented to the Special Constable, (SC) who will record the name of the entrant, the permit number, receipt number and purpose of entry for verification.

     

    Notification of approval will be as follows:
    • Temporary Passes notification of approval will be within two hours of application

     

    • Annual Passes within seven days of application

     

    Application forms are available at Salem Police Station and Brades Police Station.

     

    Application for temporary day passes must be made at least a day prior to the date of entry to facilitate a smooth application process.

     

    It must be clearly noted that:
    • Permits will not be issued at the gate or while entering the zone

     

    • The time of entry into the exclusion zone C remains between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

     

    • The extended hours 7am to 6PM apply only to pre- authorized personnel i.e.  PWD and workers of the Geothermal Project.
