Saddlers Secondary Students Attend College Fair in Nevis

Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, November 26th 2012 - Students of the Saddlers Secondary School joined their counterparts in Nevis at the 7th Annual College Fair of the Nevis Public Library on November 19th.

According to Minister of Education Hon. Nigel Carty it was felt that the students could benefit from participating in the one-day event which was organized to give secondary students exposure to opportunities in tertiary level education.

The minister added that this mixed-ability classroom high school was a good choice for inclusion in the fair due to the fact that these students who are at various stages of academic achievement and interests including technical and vocational studies, would gain exposure. “The best- case scenario would have been for all high school students in the Federation to attend,” the Minister added. He informed them however that a College Fair planned for January would give that opportunity to all students on St. Kitts.

The activity gave students the opportunity to interact with colleges and universities represented; exposed them to varied platforms of learning; sensitized the international colleges and universities to our education system; as well as provided dialogue between teachers, principals and guidance counselors regarding college application processes.

The event included a presentation on the theme “Partnering for Success” by Mrs. Sylvia Fahie of the Nevis Public Library and brief remarks concerning the “Accreditation Processes in St. Kitts and Nevis” by Ms. Trisha Rawlins. There was also an information session with Guidance Counselors suitably title “The Role of the Guidance Counselor”.
