Isabella Simmonds Honoured Ahead Elderly Month

Basseterre, St. Kitts, (SKNIS): Isabella Sutton Simmonds served to remind citizens that while October’s commemoration of Month of the Elderly is important, honoring the contributions of senior citizens is a joyful, year long experience.
Ms. Simmonds, turned 90 on Friday, and excitedly celebrated this milestone with friends, family and staff members from the Ministry of Social Development.
Supervisor of Social Services Ann Wigley, presented the “birthday girl” with a fruit basket and extended best wishes to Ms. Sutton on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Ms. Wigley encouraged residents to pay tribute to senior citizens in their respective communities and participate in activities marking Elderly Month.
Under the theme “Rights of Older Persons – The Elderly, Our Nation’s Pride” activities begin this Sunday with a Church Service at the Wesley Methodist Church.
Other popular listings on the calendar of events include a dinner and ball at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel on October 18; a picnic at the St. Paul’s Playing Field on October 23; and a Concert at the Cayon Community Center on October 26.
Also during the month, Government Ministers will pay special visits to the oldest persons in their constituencies.
