BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST four days after the shooting death of Kenneth Smithen in Nevis, the Federation has recorded its 17th homicide for the year with the killing of a young man in Mansion Village last night.

According to reports reaching SKNVibes, 22-year-old Darren Gibson of Tabernacle Village was shot and killed at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 27 while seated on the side of the road in the vicinity of the Mansion Dominoes Club.

A police press release states that while seated at the roadside, Gibson was attacked and shot by an assailant from within a nearby clump of bushes and was taken to the Mary Charles Hospital by a private vehicle.

Gibson was subsequently transferred to the Joseph N France General Hospital where he later succumbed to the gunshot wound.

The police also informed that three men are in custody assisting with investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, another shooting incident took place some 11 hours earlier in Stapleton Village, which resulted in a man being injured and warded in the Joseph N France General Hospital.    ~~Adz:Right~~

Police reported that at about 8:45 p.m. on Friday, September 26, Chavern Scott of Stapleton Village was walking along a dirt road on his way home when he was approached by three young men in a car, “who opened fire on him injuring him in the buttocks. The men then made their escape in the car. Scott was taken to the JNF Hospital where he was treated and warded”.

The police are appealing to persons who may have information on these shootings to contact the Stapleton Police Station at telephone 465-2418 or the Tabernacle Police Station at 465- 7227. Information received will be held in the strictest confidence.

And in the shooting death of Smithen, Barbadian pathologist Dr. Stephen Jones performed a post mortem on his remains and reported that he died from multiple gunshot injuries with haemorrhage and shock.

The Craddock Road resident was shot at about 2:35 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23 shortly after leaving his home for work.

Police informed that three persons were arrested on suspicion of murder, but they have since been interviewed and released, and investigations are ongoing.

Gibson’s death marks the 14th homicide committed on St. Kitts for the year and the 17th for the Federation, which have surpassed the total murders recorded for last year (16) and equalled that of 2006.
