BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FOLLOWING nine months at the helm of a committee charged with governing the affairs of cricket in St. Kitts, Auckland Hector has been elected for a two-year term as President of the St. Kitts Cricket Association.

At the elections held on Thursday (Dec. 6), Hector was nominated unopposed for the post. Though reluctant at first, he however accepted the post.

Stanley Franks Jr. defeated Steve Saunders 15 votes to nine to be reinstalled as Vice President.

The other elected members of the Association are General Secretary Carleen Delaney, Assistant Secretary Robert Jeffers and Treasurer Sam Franks.

Six other members are scheduled to be appointed to serve on the Association.

Speaking after his election, Hector warned the committee members that they are to assume their respective offices only if they were serious in reviving the sport on the island.

He noted that some four years have passed without the completion of the local leagues and that his main priority would be to run a successful tournament.

The elections were conducted and supervised by President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Olympic Committee Alphonso Bridgewater.

On January 5, 2012, Hector was appointed head of an interim committee after a motion of no confidence was passed against the President and members of the Management of the St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) which was headed by Cosbert Manchester.

Hector, in the 1980s, served as Vice President of the Association and is also one of St. Kitts’ most cherished former players. He had captained the St. Kitts Senior Cricket Team, the Leeward Islands Cricket Team and the Combine Island Cricket Team.

The newly-appointed members will be responsible for all administrative affairs of the Association and have the power to organise, coordinate and manage any matches, tournaments and competitions at the local, regional or international levels.
