Overturned car impedes midday traffic in Basseterre

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TRAFFIC came to a standstill today (Sept. 29) on Wellington Road, when a vehicle overturned after colliding with a stationary car in the vicinity of the National Housing Corporation.
The accident, involving a Honda Integra (PA6494), owned by Donette Simon of Manchester Avenue and Wellington Road, and a Toyota Corolla (PA5782), owned and driven by a woman who only gave her name as Marie, occurred at about 1:30 p.m.
According to Marie, she was driving along Wellington Road towards Basseterre when she swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, but, in the attempt, her vehicle collided with the stationary PA6494 and overturned in the process.
She was however able to extricate herself from the vehicle by crawling through a window. Marie suffered minor bruises to and a swelling on her right arm as a result of the accident.
However, SKNVibes learnt that no other injury was reported and no one was in PA6494 when the accident occurred.
The specific extent of the damage to her car is unknown, although it was observed that the windscreen was shattered and many other parts in the interior damaged; while the windscreen of Simon’s vehicle was broken and minor damages were seen on the left rear door, left bumper and left front fender.
Statistics from the Traffic Department of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force indicate that there have been 287 road accidents in the Basseterre area from January to August of this year (2008). ~~Adz:Left~~
