70 recognised at Academic Excellence Awards

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EXCELLENCE as a way of life and also a cornerstone in the house of success were some of the underlying messages echoed on Friday evening (Dec. 7) when more than 70 outstanding students and teachers were honoured at the 26th  Academic Excellence Recognition Awards ceremony.
     
    The auspicious LIME-sponsored event was organised by the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
     
    The Ballroom of the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel was buzzing with activity with hundreds of friends, family members and well-wishers gathered for the ceremony, which was prefaced by a delectable buffet-style dinner.
     
    Expressions of encouragement and congratulations were offered from speakers, including Senior Education Officer Michael Blake, LIME’s General Manager David Lake and the telecommunication company’s Business Analyst Julia Jones-Isaac.
     
    The featured speaker, Dr. Marcus Natta, suggested to the awardees that they should measure their success not only by their triumphs but also by whether or not they would have learnt from their difficulties and failures, as they continue on their path to even greater achievement.
     
    The secondary school student awardees are Chauntelle Hobson, Duane Williams, Adielle Chiverton, Tonya De Suza, Jaleel Grant, Alphea Browne, Hassanni Lapsey, Danika Knight, Brencia Skeete, Khyla Brown, Najee Warner, Nigencia James, Andrelle Jeffers, Ciquinya Morton, Devatrea Mike, Nicoyann Blackett, Chloe Williams, Imani Caines, Tameka Vyphuis, Bernesta Liburd, Isairah Baptiste, Christopher Kellowan, Sadita Sarran, Frederick Amory, Kaira Farrell, Caian Ward, Clayticia Daniel, Chaim Walters, Jonelle Irish, DivyaKirpalani, Lannique Saunders, Galesha Henry, Tiffany Hodge, Taisha Lennard, Siedra Doyling, Wenzyba Spencer, Therese Wilson-Rawlins, Yenesia Henry, Juan Lynch, Kylah Farrell, Jenee Williams, Simoneth Williams, Antonio Laplace-Murrain, Andre Hanley, Sanal Huggins, Kaijana Henry, Kaila Powell, Peaches Powell, Diloma Edgings, Dennis McCall Jr., Ashlee Allers, Ganzell Mills and Davron Hanley.
     
    Students of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) who received awards are: Akela Huggins and Donato Wharton of the Teacher Education Division; TVET Scholar Shelisia Glasford, Tishanna Hazel of the Arts, Sciences and General Studies Division; and Kenisha Mills of the Health Sciences Division.
     
    Outstanding Lecturer Awards were distributed to Nadine Lawrence, Joan Mills, Stuart Laplace and Rondalyn Dennis-Bradshaw, all of the (CFBC).
     
    Miguel Thomas of the Basseterre High School, Jaycee Somersall of Cayon High School, Shaundelle Chase of Charlestown Secondary School, John Williams of Gingerland Secondary School, Cyrene Simmonds of the Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Treasa Wyatt of Verchilds High School and Joanne Williams-Sargeant of Washington Archibald High School were also awarded that evening.

     

    The students and teachers were awarded for their exemplary performance during the 2011/2012 school year and the 2012 overseas examinations, and were all presented with certificates of recognition.
     
    Special awards were received by Therese Wilson-Rawlins who achieved the best CXC/CSEC results, Wricherley Gumbs who is the Second Runner-up State Scholar, Shanice Liburd the First Runner-up State Scholar and Tishnna Hazel the State Scholar. 
     
    In conveying gratitude on behalf of the awardees, the State Scholar thanked every parent, friend and others who assisted them along their path to success.
