Coordinator of Culture lauds COGOP Songfest Competition

    LITTLE BAY Montserrat, December 10th 2012 – Coordinator of Culture Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis is lauding the talent and creativity displayed at the recent Songfest organised by the Church of God of Prophecy, calling the standard “very high.”

     

    Songfest is the church’s annual original composition show now in its fifth year.

     

    Nineteen young people competed in the event held at the Montserrat Cultural Centre on Friday, December 7, 2012.

     

    Mr. Francis was one of the judges for the evening and spoke on behalf of the group who assessed the participants in three categories.

     

    “What we are doing here is tremendous and the organisers should be applauded,” Francis said at the closing. “The quality of the compositions was very good, and the writers and musicians need to be commended. The young people were well trained.

     

    Clearly some were better than others but generally everyone did well within their own capacity.”

     

    Winning in the Junior category were: 1st Jaena Golden, 2nd Joshua Golden, 3rd Ladessa Irish.

     

    Intermediates: 1st Jameina St. Hill, 2nd Warren Thomas, 3rd Joel Bish.

     

    Seniors: 1st Thandie Williams, 2nd Lorrian Williams, 3rd Leon Williams.

     

    The other participants were: Kenita Barzey, Jahnyi Carty, Rajaime Barzey, Kia Grant, Suann Livingston, Sean Martin, Wilfred Farrell, Kenciola Hutson, Erasmus Fergus, and Kelvin Felix.

     

    All of the songs were created by members of the church, including the pastor, Bishop Melroy Meade.
